1) Once you UNZIP the contents of MBPROTD.ZIP
----------------------------------------------
Change to the directory where you UNZIPPED Modem Base Pro from the
MBPROTD.ZIP file and then proceed to step 2 below.
2) Modem Base Pro Installation.
--------------------------------
At the DOS PROMPT type INSTALL and press <ENTER>. On-Screen instructions
will appear to assist you. You will be asked for the directory in which you
want to INSTALL Modem Base Pro to. Typically, this is the C:\MBPRO directory.
Once installed, you may type MBPRO for a demo of some of Modem Base Pro's
capabilities or proceed to step 3 to actually put a database on-line using
Modem Base Composer. If you do not have an existing database and wish to
create a NEW database using our MBMANAGE utility, then proceed directly to
step 4. Be sure to read INTRO.DOC and SETUP.DOC for additional information
about Modem Base Pro and highlights on setting up databases for on-line
usage using MBPRO. Complete documentation is available in MANUAL.DOC.
3) Modem Base Pro Composer Setup (for existing databases only)
---------------------------------------------------------------
A) Once step 2 is complete and MBPRO has been installed, you may setup an
existing database for on-line usage by typing COMPOSE. MBCOMPOSER contains
ON-SCREEN instructions and will ask you for the following :
1) Database Filename. Your database filename must be 6 characters
or less. You will need to enter your database filename WITHOUT the
filename extension or path, i.e. if your database is PARTS.DBF, you
will only enter PARTS as your database filename. MBCOMPOSER will
use this filename to create the necessary CONTROL and SUPPORT files.
2) Database Directory. You will then be asked for the location of
your database. Enter the directory it is located in, i.e., C:\DATA.
If MBCOMPOSER can not find your database file, it will ask you to TRY
AGAIN. You may try again or press CTRL-C to abort the operation at
any time.
3) Installation Directory. This directory should be a seperate
directory from that of your MBPRO directory and will be where
MBCOMPOSER sets up your database for on-line usage. Your database
file will be copied to this directory if it is different from the
database directory. Caution! If your database is very large this
may not be desired, and you should use the same directory as your
database if possible. MBCOMPOSER will attempt to create the
directory to install to if it does not exist and if it can not create
the directory, it will ask you to try again.
B) Once your database is installed by MBCOMPOSER, you will proceed to setup
your NODE CONFIGURATION and LINK CONFIGURATION. There is ON-SCREEN
instructions for this process and you should refer to your manual for
database design and configuration concepts. Once your configuration and
link databases are setup properly, an example DOOR.BAT is created and your
database is ready to go on-line. You may then go back into your
CONFIGURATION or LINK setup at any time by typing the <filename>C and
<filename>L batch files created for you. Use MBCHOICE to create any needed
CHOICE databases. If your database has any .DBT memo files that you also
want to use on-line, you will need to manually copy them over to your
directory or use MODEM BASE PRO MANAGE to create NEW empty .DBT files by
simply loading the database file, i.e., MBMANAGE <filename>.
4) Modem Base Pro Manage (MBMANAGE)
-------------------------------------
Modem Base Pro Manage is a Database Management Utility (DBMS) that can be
used to create new databases in dBase(tm) III compatible format. You may
also use MBMANAGE to add, edit, browse, or search your existing databases.
See the manual under Section II for more information on using MBMANAGE.
